The CE/CE was founded in 1988 with funding from the Tennessee Valley Authority Environmental/Energy Education Program. In 2001 the CE/CE began the transition to an online curricular resource center which came to fruition in 2003 with the addition of the online resources of the Center of Excellence For Science And Mathematics Education (CESME). CESME closed after a run of 19 years from 1984 until June 30, 2003. In like token the CE/CE closed after a run of 18 years from 1987 until June 30, 2005. The work of the two Centers continues as a virtual presentation on the Internet where in excess of 1.0 million hits are recorded annually.
At this point in the history of what is now the CE/CE Online, the most significant activities continue to be curricular materials prepared for teachers of science and mathematics by either/both the CE/CE and CESME. Through this change in the delivery system the science and mathematics curricular materials are available at no cost to the user through a materials resource center located on the Internet.
