Majors
Concentrations:
Accounting The
accounting major is designed to prepare students
for positions in public, private, or governmental
accounting and is an excellent pre-law major. The
major also provides an educational background for
the CIA, CMA, and CPA examinations, and is an excellent
first step toward a university teaching career.
The student should be aware that 150 semester hours
are required to qualify a person to sit for the
CPA examination.
If you're interested in a career in international business, finance or economics, you need to check out UT Martin's major in economics. A major in economics offers students a solid foundation in economic theory and application while providing a diverse background in business administration. Students in our economics program have classes in all areas of business - economics, accounting, marketing, management, finance, computer technology, business law and international business. The economics option develops students' quantitative skills and affords them the flexibility to study a wide variety of liberal arts subjects as well. Students who pursue this option are very well prepared to assume positions in banking, management, financial management and various government positions. The economics option also prepares students to enter graduate studies or law school.
In addition to the pure economics major, you can choose a concentration in either finance or international business.
The finance major offers students a solid foundation in economic theory with strong emphasis placed on the theory and practice of finance. Students are exposed to numerous topics including theories of finance, capital budgeting techniques and exchange rate theories. Emphasis is placed on financial theory as it applied to the industrial management sector. Students who choose this option are prepared for graduate school as well as for careers in banking, financial management and management.
The international business concentration exposes students to a wide variety of business courses including economics, finance, marketing and management. Special emphasis is given to international business principles, cultural diversity and comparative economic systems. A foreign language is available for students who choose this concentration. A solid background in international business prepares students for various career opportunities with companies in the United States and corporations abroad.
