  1. ATT: BETH PY-LIEBERMAN

    Dear Beth Py-Lieberman,

I thought it might interest you to learn that for the past three decades I have been translating the operas of Gilbert & Sullivan into Yiddish.

My Yiddish version of “The Pirates of Penzance” (a.k.a. DI YAM GAZLONIM) won a 1970 New York Drama Desk nomination for Best Revival of a Musical.

If you wish to learn more about this project I will be happy to continue this discussion with you and to send you the two dozen rave reviews (including Van Gelder’s in the NY Times) of the Folksbiene Yiddish Theater’s recent production of Yiddish “Pirates.”

    With swashbuckling regards,

    Al Grand

  2. My comment of November 23, 2007 on Around the Mall which reads “My Yiddish version of “The Pirates of Penzance” (a.k.a. DI YAM GAZLONIM) won a 1970 New York Drama Desk nomination for Best Revival of a Musical” has a serious error: Please change the “1970″ to “2007″.

    Many thanks!

    Al Grand
