International Advocacy, Institutions & Partnerships

PAI's International Advocacy department works to bridge the organization's work with governments and influential institutions-- and, increasingly, key regional institutions -- to our partners and colleagues worldwide. We seek to influence and raise awareness about the international policies and funding of these various stakeholders, and ensure that they are considering the linkages between sexual and reproductive health and rights, family planning, HIV and AIDS, and gender equality, and other key development concerns such as the environment and climate change, and security and conflict.

We also look to global policy frameworks to ensure our work is grounded in the language and philosophy of the most current global agreements. And we are increasingly exploring the efficacy of regional and continental economic and policy bodies for the promotion of sexual and reproductive health and rights for all.

To carry out these important mandates, PAI's International Advocacy department:

  • monitors the impact of U.S. policies and programs overseas, documenting and exposing where current policies are off track;
  • invests in partner organizations and networks around the world with financial resources and professional assistance;
  • advocates, and support our colleague's advocacy, for evidence-based policies and approaches;
  • leverages increased funding for critical programs from relevant donors and budgets through flexible and opportunistic strategies; and
  • develops bold and creative partnerships by discovering new and unusual allies and champions for sexual and reproductive health and rights.
