Art Gallery

Take a walk across the campus of Dordt College and you’ll see the importance this campus community places upon art, its creation, and cultivating the gifts God has given each individual.

Art is the sixth largest enrollment program at Dordt, and you’ll see how it visually enriches the entire campus community with two art galleries and a variety of campus art acquisitions displayed in every public space. The campus art collection features art created by students, faculty, alumni, and other Christian artists, ranging from local to internationally known.

Dordt College’s Campus Center Art Gallery showcases new exhibits every month, and is open every day of the year. The Classroom Complex Art Gallery offers a second venue for art appreciation, education and occasionally the sale of work by talented students.

Students pursuing an art degree at Dordt College can choose from five career tracks—fine arts studio, graphic design, art history, teaching art, or an art degree with a pre-architecture design emphasis.

Whatever the focus, your program will train you for life-long service in graphic design or fine art. You will learn the technical skills you need to be a competent participant in the art world, and through your general education courses and interaction with professors you will be prepared to live richly in all of life.

The well-rounded training received at Dordt is noted by employers, who consistently seek out artists equipped to handle a variety of tasks, such as creating logos/symbols, brochures, websites, marketing, advertising, pre-press, etc. You can build an art portfolio and gain practical experience during your college years by working with the college newspaper, yearbook, art journals, or other freelance opportunities.

Dordt’s art faculty emphasizes the importance of Christians actively taking part in culture rather than retreating from it. They will encourage you to use your art as a response of praise to God and service to people around you.
