The Heart of the Continent Partnership (HOCP) invites the public to the second presentation of the Heart of the Continent Partnership Lecture Series – Lake Sturgeon Research and Management in the Namakan System – by Darryl McLeod, Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources and Steve Windels, Voyageurs National Park on Thursday, January 15, 2009 at 6:30 pm at Rainy River Community College in International Falls, Minnesota.

This talk will focus on current research of Lake Sturgeon throughout the Namakan System, including the Namakan Reservoir and the Namakan River and its tributaries. The lake sturgeon is often called a "living fossil" as it has existed in its present form for at least 100 million years.

HOCP is a cross-border collaborative effort to bring together as many voices as possible to share ideas and learn about different perspectives affecting the lakes, forests and communities on the Minnesota/Ontario border.

The program is free and reservations are not required.
