Wild Turkey on the Rise

Decades of successful trap and transplant programs have returned three sub-species of wild turkey to the New Mexico landscape. Continued management and habitat restoration are needed to keep populations stable.

Today New Mexico is home to approximately 70,000 Rocky Mountain elk, but less than 100 years ago elk had all but disappeared from the state. Restoration and management have been key to their dramatic comeback.
