U.S. Department of Labor Announces $237,000 Grant to Assist Dislocated Monaco Coach Corp. Workers in Bend, Ore.

SEATTLE - The U.S. Department of Labor today announced a $237,258 National Emergency Grant (NEG) to assist approximately 50 dislocated workers at Monaco Coach Corp. in Bend, Ore.

"This Administration wants to ensure that workers who are laid off are provided access to the skills and support they need to attain new jobs," said Assistant Secretary of Labor for Employment and Training Emily Stover DeRocco. "This grant will provide the training and services necessary to help these workers transition into new careers in growing industries."

The grant, awarded to the Oregon Department of Community Colleges and Workforce Development, will provide assistance to workers in Deschutes County who were dislocated from Monaco Coach Corp. in Bend.

The project funded by this grant will provide an array of services to assist participants in gaining new employment. Training will be provided in a variety of occupational areas including computer-aided drafting, welding, plumbing, and electrical and diesel work, as well as truck driving and operation of heavy equipment.

Services in addition to training will include assessment, individual counseling, career planning, employment development and supportive services such as child care, transportation assistance and job-related uniforms and equipment.

National Emergency Grants are part of the Secretary's discretionary fund and are awarded based on a state's ability to meet specific guidelines.
