U.S. Department of Labor Announces $750,000 Grant to Train Young Adults for California's Entertainment Industry

LOS ANGELES - U.S. Secretary of Labor Elaine L. Chao today announced a $750,000 grant to train 400 out-of-school, adjudicated or other disadvantaged young adults ages 15-25 in skilled trades careers related to the entertainment industry. The grant will go to Hollywood Cinema Production Resources (CPR).

"This grant will create opportunities for hundreds of young people to turn their lives around with education and training for good jobs in an exciting industry," said Chao. "Investing in their potential at the outset of their working lives can make a tremendous difference for them, their families and their communities."

Hollywood CPR will use the grant to develop and add two new trade skill tracks to its existing craft skill modules: electrical and computer support specialists. The project will expand Hollywood CPR's training program to meet current and future employment needs in the entertainment industry.

The grantee uses hands-on training that is developed and taught by professionals recruited from film and television craft unions. The curriculum, developed collaboratively by unions, studios and community colleges, is highly responsive to the entry-level skills required by employers in the TV and movie industry.

Participants will earn community college degrees and an Entertainment and Media Arts certificate from West Los Angeles College upon completion of the program.
