The Board makes nominations from submitted applications, and the PCEI

John Lawrence, President John is a professor of Business at the University of Idaho, where he
teaches courses in operations management, international business, and
strategic management. He is also a member of the core faculty of two
interdisciplinary programs at the UI, the Environmental Science program
and the American Indian Studies program. Since joining the faculty of
the University of Idaho in 1993, John has also taught courses as a
visiting professor at universities in Sweden, Spain, Italy, France and
New Zealand. John was a member of the team that developed the
Sustainable Idaho initiative at the UI, and in early 2007 facilitated a
workshop for faculty on integrating sustainability into the curriculum.
John has previously served on the Board of Directors of the Palouse Ice
Rink Association and was a member of the Moscow Arts Commission. In
his spare time, he likes to hike, backpack, bike, canoe and ski with
his wife Wendy, his daughter Karen, and his dog, Scout.

Mary Jo Knowles, Vice President, Chair of Fundraising Committee Mary Jo is one of the founding board members of PCEI. She was the
General Manager of the Moscow Food Co-op from 1986 to 1991. In 2005
she ran the loan program for the Co-op's move to its new location. She
is also a rental property owner in Moscow and a ski instructor at
Schweitzer.

Cindi Jette, Vice President, Chair of Program and Facilities
Committee Cindi lives in Moscow. She is recognized locally as past-President of
the Board for Sojourners’ Alliance. Her leadership helped bring
stability and vision to their important work for affordable housing.
Cindi worked for 10 years in the U.S. Forest Service, was a Technical
Writer for the University of Idaho, and most recently was a partner in
an engineering consulting business. She is currently serving on
Moscow’s Fair & Affordable Housing Commission. She has a
self-described passion for housing and the environment. Her other
interests include yoga, landscaping, architecture, carpentry and
hiking.

Paige Buehler, Treasurer, Chair of Finance Committee As a child in Beaverton, Oregon Paige grew up with recycling as a "way
of life" since bottles and cans were worth money! Her main
environmental interests lie in recycling and transportation issues.

Prior to becoming a full-time mom, she worked at Intel Corporation
during the "Technology '90s" in corporate finance and fixed asset
accounting in Hillsboro, Oregon and Rio Rancho, New Mexico. She also
has a BA in Latin American Studies from the College of William & Mary
(which some day she may actually put into use!)

Carrie Lee, Secretary Carrie has spent over 30 years on the Palouse with the exception of a
short stint in Seattle. Life in the big city made her appreciate the
Moscow area and she feels fortunate to have the opportunity to give
back to the community that she loves. Carrie Works at TerraGraphics Environmental Engineering,
Inc. in Moscow. Carrie enjoys hiking Moscow Mountain with her dogs,
Ruger and Jeb.

Kristin LeVier, Board Member Kristin LeVier is an artist and woodworker who moved to Moscow in 2005.
She studied and worked as a molecular microbiologist in the fields of
agriculture and infectious disease for the 19 years prior to her move
to Idaho. She and her husband, Brian, have two young children, Aengus
and Petra.

Steve Shook, Board Member A native of Indiana, Steve is an Associate
Professor of Marketing at the University of Idaho. His research
focuses on market mechanisms related to the efficient utilization of
natural resources, especially residential building materials. He has
taught the capstone course in the College of Natural Resources several
times, and is a faculty advisor in the Ecology and Conservation Biology
degree program. Steve lives on Moscow Mountain with his wife Mary (a
former PCEI board member) and their three children – Grace, James, and
Jennings. He enjoys hiking, mountain biking, snowshoeing, and he’s a
genealogy and history junkie.

Allyson Beall, Board Member Allyson Beall’s expertise includes the use of system dynamics as an
environmental problem solving methodology. Her work supports the use of
collaboratively built simulation models to improve environmental
decision making processes and has included projects concerned with
endangered species management, watershed management and aquifer
management. In addition, she is interested in using these models for
improving the accessibility of scientific information to the public who
may be affected by policy decisions based on that information.
Her work as a participatory modeler with University of Idaho Waters of
the West is currently focused on the Palouse Basin Participatory Model
Pilot Project. Her role as lead facilitator and modeler is helping
members of the local aquifer committee and citizens advisory group
understand the potential for participatory modeling as a venue for
creating a decision support tool to assist with aquifer management.
Her work at Washington State University in environmental science
education includes an introductory environmental science class and a
NEPA environmental assessment class both of which she teaches from the
systems perspective.
She has a Ph.D. in Environmental and Natural Resource Science, an MS in
Environmental Science and a BS in General Biology from WSU.

Emmi Blades, Board Member PCEI is pleased to welcome Emmi as the newest member of our Board. Emmi
is a seasoned volunteer at PCEI. This past year she dedicated 20 hours
a week to our Watersheds Program as an AmeriCorps Member and learned
much about stream restoration. In addition to her service to PCEI, she
has a degree in Environmental Science, a great husband, two dogs and a
club soccer coaching position. This fall, Emmi is pursuing a degree in
law from the University of Idaho.
