Since 1981, the Iowa Small Business Development Centers have provided expert and confidential business counseling services and training workshops to entrepreneurs in all 99 Iowa counties. As an outreach program for the College of Business, and the only nationally accredited entrepreneurial development program in Iowa, the SBDC can help existing business owners and entrepreneurs with the assistance and resources they need.

Jamie Wegner (above) president of New Hampton Metal Fabrication, received one-on-one technical assistance and networked with local and regional business professionals through the SBDC's MyEntreNet program to solidify plans for his company's 20,000-square-foot expansion that would add another 20 jobs to the operation. "No matter what anyone says, being in business is a great deal of work," Wegner said. "The kind of education we received from the SBDC MyEntreNet program helped make it easier." He added, "The resources the SBDC brought to the table were incredible. In 1989 we were a company of a dozen people with $250,000 in annual sales. This year, sales will hit $6 million." |
