Fires in Southeast Russia

Fires are burning all across Russia this May, and the southeast is no exception. This MODIS image from May 9, 2002, shows dozens of fires and associated smoke. Fires are located along the border with China (left), to the east along the banks of the Amur River (center), and on southern Sakhalin Island (right).
