Scores of fires are filling the air with smoke in this true-color MODIS image from May 6, 2002. This image is from the Krasnoyarsk region in south-central Russia. The region is at the border of the Siberia Plain (west) and the Siberian Plateau (east). In the center of the image, a wide spot in the Yenisey River stands out in blue.
