Archaeology and PaleontologyIf you’re interested in what lies beneath the surface, you’ll love exploring South Dakota’s ancient past. Fossils of extinct species, giant wooly mammoths and dinosaur bones have been discovered in South Dakota’s fertile fields. A visit to one of our bone zones is an experience you’ll never forget.
 

Hunting and Fishing
South Dakota is known for its world-class hunting. Hunters from all over the country come to our fields in search of ring-necked pheasants, waterfowl and many other small game species. Pheasant season is always one of the biggest events of the year with thousands of hunters and millions of birds.  

South Dakota has miles of shoreline and plenty of freshwater fish. Here, the fishing season never ends and the walleye, pike and smallmouth bass are always biting.
 

Motorcycling
If feeling the wind in your face from the back of your Harley-Davidson, BMW or Honda is your idea of a great vacation, South Dakota offers spectacular motorcycling opportunities and routes.

Each August, millions of motorcycles rumble through the state for the annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally in Sturgis and throughout the Black Hills. What started out as a small, hometown event has grown into a world-wide phenomenon that you have to see to believe.
