Description
 
NASA/GSFC has a requirement for a new Diamond Turning Machine with the following minimum specifications:

I. Features:

A. Precision slideways 1. At least 8" (200mm) travel on X & Z axis 2. X & Z straightness: 0.2 micrometer horizontal 0.5 micrometer vertical 3. X stiffness 219 N/micrometer horizontal 140 N/micrometer vertical 4. Z stiffness 438 N/micrometer horizontal 140 N/micrometer vertical 5. Surface roughness: 2.0 nm RA 6. Surface form accuracy: 0.1 micrometer P-V 7. Position feedback resolution better than 0.016 nm

B. Air bearing spindle 1. Load capacity: 150 lb (68 Kg) @ nose 105 lb (48 kg) 50 mm out 2. Axial stiffness @ 100 psig: 228 N/micrometer 2. Radial stiffness @ 100 psig @ spindle nose: 88 N/micrometer 3. Motion accuracy, axial & radial: <=25 nm 4. C-axis accuracy: +/-2.0 arcsec (during servo control?) 5. C-axis feedback resolution: 0.05 to 0.72 arcsec (what does this mean?) 5. Swing capacity at least 8.5 "

C. Vacuum chuck

D. Control system 1. Motion control with user friendly GUI (Windows?) 2. 0.01 nm resolution 3. Aspheric motion control 4. Error compensation system 5. File transfer system incorporating CD ROMS and USB memory sticks

This notice is a combined synopsis/solicitation for commercial items prepared in accordance with the format in FAR Subpart 12.6, as supplemented with additional information included in this notice. This announcement constitutes the only solicitation, which is issued as a Request for Quotation (RFQ); quotes are being requested and a written solicitation will not be issued. Offerors are required to use the On-Line RFQ system to submit their quote. The On-line RFQ system is linked above or it may be accessed at http://prod.nais.nasa.gov/cgi-bin/eps/bizops.cgi?gr=C&pin= . The information required by FAR Subpart 12.6 is included in the on-line RFQ.

The Government intends to acquire a commercial item using FAR Part 12 and the Simplified Acquisition Procedures set forth in FAR Part 13.

Questions regarding this acquisition must be submitted in writing (e-mail is preferred) no later than May 28, 2008. It is the quoter's responsibility to monitor this site for the release of amendments (if any). Potential quoters will be responsible for downloading their own copy of this notice, the on-line RFQ and amendments (if any).
