NOTICE OF REVISION TO PAS-99-080 - EXPLORATORY GRANTS IN PEDIATRIC BRAIN DISORDERS: INTEGRATING THE SCIENCE Release Date: July 14, 2000 NOTICE: NS-00-009 National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke National Institute of Child Health and Human Development National Institute of Mental Health The National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS), National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD), and National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) have revised the application guidelines for PAS-99-080 (http://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/pa-files/PAS-99-080.html) to change the maximum direct costs that may be requested for future applications that propose the involvement of a consortium/contractual arrangement in which collaborations to perform research responsive to this PA are established between scientists at differing institutions. Applications that include a consortium/contractual arrangement may request up to a maximum of $150,000 direct costs, including the facilities and administrative costs (indirect costs) for the consortium institution. Applications proposing research at a single institution may request up to a maximum of $125,000 direct costs. The specific revisions made to PAS-99-080 appear in the "Mechanism of Support" and "Application Procedures" sections. The first revision to the "Mechanism of Support" section appears at the end of the first paragraph. Applicants may request up to three years of support. Applications for research at a single institution may request up to a maximum of $125,000 direct costs per year. Applications that include a consortium/contractual arrangement may request up to a maximum of $150,000 direct costs, including the facilities and administrative costs (indirect costs) of the consortium institution. The second revision to the "Mechanism of Support" section appears at the beginning of the third paragraph. Applications will request direct costs in $25,000 modules, up to a total direct cost of $125,000 per year for up to three years for applications proposing research at a single institution and up to a total direct cost of $150,000 per year for up to three years for applications that include a subcontract/consortium arrangement. The cost of equipment is included in the budget limitation. The final revision to the "Application Procedures" section appears in the instructions for the Face Page. Face Page - Items 7a and 7b should be completed, indicating Direct Costs (in $25,000 increments up to a maximum of $125,000 for research at a single institution, or up to a maximum of $150,000 for research involving a consortium/contractual arrangement) and Total costs (Modular Total Direct plus Facilities and Administrative (F&A) Costs) for the initial budget period.
