U.S. Secretary of Labor Elaine L. Chao Announces Nearly $866,000 to Assist Dislocated Workers in Idaho

WASHINGTON - U.S. Secretary of Labor Elaine L. Chao today announced an $865,770 National Emergency Grant to assist approximately 200 workers dislocated as a result of layoffs at the Hewlett Packard facility in Boise, Idaho.

“This grant of over $865,000 will help these workers acquire the skills training, and support services to access new job opportunities offering good wages in high growth sectors,” said Secretary Chao.

The grant, awarded to the Idaho Department of Commerce and Labor, will provide high-tech industry occupational skills training for workers in Idaho’s Ada, Canyon, Elmore and Gem counties. Supportive services, including remediation, job search and placement assistance will also be funded by the grant.

National Emergency Grants are part of the Secretary’s discretionary fund and are awarded based on a state’s ability to meet specific guidelines.
