P.R.O.M.I.S.E. Project Receives Recognition of Excellence Honors
Second Annual Honors Presented at Workforce Innovations 2005 in Philadelphia

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - The Preventing Recidivism with Opportunities, Mandates, and Initiatives for Successful Employment (P.R.O.M.I.S.E.) Project received the top Recognition of Excellence (ROE) honor in the "e3 Partnerships" category at the Workforce Innovations 2005 Conference in Philadelphia. Assistant Secretary of Labor for Employment and Training Emily Stover DeRocco presented the second annual ROE honors, which recognize workforce investment system programs from around the country that have achieved outstanding success. Honorees were selected from more than 100 applicant organizations nationwide.

"This year's Recognition of Excellence honorees exemplify the workforce system's capacity to develop new approaches for equipping workers with the skills necessary to compete in the global economy," said DeRocco. "These projects and the people behind them offer examples of success that colleagues in education and job training can replicate to meet workforce needs throughout the country."

The Employment and Training Administration presents ROE honors in five categories. The "e3 Partnerships" category honors projects that demonstrate sustained partnerships between employment, education and economic development - known as "the Power of e3."

In response to the workforce shortages facing the health care industry in Palm Beach, Fla., the P.R.O.M.I.S.E. Project developed training curricula to prepare workers with skills needed to successfully attain and advance in careers within the industry. The training curricula included basic nursing skills, life management, work readiness and special technical training courses.

Successes of the program were overwhelming, with 100% of participants completing the program and community leaders noting the renewed vitality of the health care industry in Palm Beach. Innovations currently underway in the area that have benefited from the project include the proposed establishment of a state-of-the-art biomedical industrial park, a new research hospital, and the expansion of Palm Beach County's cancer treatment options and open heart surgery capabilities.
