Competitive Grants Awarded 1998

Vice President Al Gore and Cabinet Officers Announce $11 Million in School-to-Work Grants to 24 Communities
School-to-work Urban/Rural Opportunities Grant

A total of $4.7 million in Urban/Rural Opportunities Grant funds will be awarded to 10 local partnerships in Empowerment Zones and Enterprise Communities (EZ/ECs) to implement School-to-Work (STW) systems for youth who live or attend school in these areas.
An additional 14 exemplary local partnerships in high poverty urban and rural areas will receive $6.3 million total in federal funds to expand and strengthen their School-to-Work (STW) systems.

Opportunity Areas For Out-Of-School Youth Pilot Demonstration (SGA/DAA 98-016)
SECRETARY OF LABOR, ALEXIS M. HERMAN ANNOUNCES $11,200,000 FOR THE OUT-OF-SCHOOL YOUTH PILOT DEMONSTRATION PROGRAM.
Opportunity Areas will be created in targeted communities to expand employment, education and training opportunities for out-of-school youth, with priority given to high school dropouts.

School-to-Work Opportunities Act: Employer Technical Support Coordination (SGA/DAA 98-005)
Labor Department Awards $749,542 To National Alliance Of Business To Promote Employer Involvement In School-To-Work

Dislocated Worker Technology Demonstration Program (SGA/DAA 98-006)
Award grants totaling $7.5 million to 11 organizations throughout the country will be used to develop and test public-private partnerships that will train dislocated workers in technology-related occupations and industries.
