OPPORTUNITIES FOR LIBRARIES, HISTORICAL SOCIETIES, AND OTHER SMALL to MIDSIZE HISTORICAL AND CULTURAL ORGANIZATIONS
In many communities across the United States, the local library, historical society, small or mid-sized museum is a primary point of access for people of all ages eager to learn more about American history and culture. NEH offers these institutions a variety of opportunities for strengthening their capacity to serve the public.
LIBRARIES AND K-12 SCHOOLS
- Picturing America℠ - Public libraries and K-12 schools can apply to receive free of charge a collection of outstanding American art reproductions and teaching materials.
- We the People Bookshelf - Public libraries and K-12 school libraries can apply to receive a free set of books for young people on a theme significant to AmericaÕs heritage.
LIBRARIES
- Traveling panel exhibitions - Libraries can apply to host traveling panel exhibitions on a variety of themes in American history and culture.
- Other public humanities programs - From time to time, NEH provides opportunities for libraries to host programs such as reading and discussion, film viewing and discussion.
SMALL AND MIDSIZE MUSEUMS
- NEH on the Road - NEH offers an exciting opportunity for communities of all sizes to experience some of the best exhibitions it has funded. Each exhibition has been developed for small to midsize museums, based on a larger exhibition funded by NEH.
PRESERVATION ASSISTANCE GRANTS FOR SMALLER INSTITUTIONS
Grants up to $5,000 are available to help small and mid-sized institutions, such as libraries, museums, historical societies, archival repositories, town and county records offices, and colleges, improve their ability to preserve and care for their humanities collections. STATE HUMANITIES COUNCILS
State humanities councils provide grants to serve local humanities needs and conduct programs that benefit cultural and community organizations within their jurisdictions. State humanities councils offer a wide array of programming, ranging from speakers bureaus to literacy initiatives to Chautauqua historical reenactments.
