Among the projects NEH has supported as part of its We the People program are some that have been completed.
- Between 2002 and 2006, NEH conducted an annual “Idea of America” Essay Contest for high school juniors. It generated fine research and thought among students and dozens of excellent essays on significant American ideas. NEH made cash awards to 22 high school juniors for their entries in four separate competitions.
- We the People funds have enabled NEH to commission new lesson plans for EDSITEment, NEH’s humanities outreach website for educators. These are gradually being added to EDSITEment at edsitement.neh.gov.
- In 2003, 2004, and 2005, NEH sponsored three We the People “Heroes of History” lectures, focusing, respectively, on the Founders, on Abraham Lincoln, and on George Marshall.
- NEH hosted a forum for scholars on the “History and Culture of the Early Republic” in April 2004.
