RESEARCH  OPPORTUNITIES 
A Research Announcement may result in the award of a contract, grant, or cooperative agreement.

 NASA Research Announcements (NRAs) provide for the submission of competitive project ideas in one or more program areas of interest. 

Announcements of Opportunity (AOs) solicit investigative ideas that contribute to broad research objectives.

Cooperative Agreement Notices (CANs) competitively solicits research that envision a cooperative agreement as the award instrument.

SMALL  BUSINESS  INNOVATION  RESEARCH  (SBIR)  and
SMALL  BUSINESS  TECHNOLOGY  TRANSFER  (STTR) PROGRAMS
 

The SBIR Program provides seed money to US small businesses for developing innovative concepts that meet NASA mission requirements through a three-phase process. Each year NASA invites small businesses to offer proposals in response to technical topics listed in the annual SBIR Program Solicitation.
The STTR Program awards contracts to small business concerns for cooperative research and development. Although modeled after the SBIR Program, STTR is a separately funded activity.
