SBIR/STTR

Introduction

Kennedy Space Center´s Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) Programs play an integral role in fulfilling the missions and objectives of the Spaceport Technology Center:
  • Improving the safety of the Space Transportation System
  • Reducing the cost of access to space
  • Enabling greater commercial success of the space launch industry.
These programs provide small, high-tech companies and research institutions opportunities to participate in government-sponsored research and development efforts in key technology areas, facilitating innovations that also have potential commercial applications and thereby contributing to the overall NASA Mission. As small businesses work to meet NASA's research and development needs, they stimulate growth in local economies and nearby business communities.

SBIR/STTR programs are guided by the following principles:

  • To stimulate U.S. technological innovation.
  • To increase private sector commercialization of technologies developed through federal research and development programs.
  • To increase small business participation in federal research and development.
  • To foster and encourage participation by socially disadvantaged businesses.
