Las Vegas, NV 89109

On Tuesday, June 6, 2006, the White House and the Departments of Justice, Commerce, Agriculture, Labor, Veterans Affairs, Health & Human Services, Housing & Urban Development, Education, and Homeland Security, the Agency for International Development, and the Small Business Administration will host a targeted workshop in Las Vegas to help faith-based and community organizations learn more about President Bush's Faith-Based and Community Initiative. The event is geared towards representatives from social service groups that have a track record of applying for government funding, especially those from groups that have not yet won grants.

The conference is free, but pre-registration is required. Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis. We strongly encourage you to register online by visiting www.fbci.gov by Wednesday, May 31. If you must cancel your registration, please send an email to fbci@dtihq.com so we may accommodate as many people as possible.

The workshop is part of a series of regional conferences and targeted workshops that are being held around the country. The targeted workshops will offer grant writing tutorials for certain Federal grant programs that present some of the greatest opportunities for faith-based and community organizations. They will also provide the occasion for Federal officials to meet with State and local grant administrators about equal treatment regulations and facilitate opportunities to network with government officials.

For more information, or if you are unable to register online, please call 202-456-6708, send an email to fbci@dtihq.com, or visit www.fbci.gov.

FY 2007 Weed and Seed Communities Competitive Program

The Office of Justice Programs' Community Capacity Development Office (CCDO) is seeking applications for funding the Weed and Seed Communities Competitive Program. This program furthers the Department's mission to prevent, control, and reduce violent crime, drug abuse, and gang activity. The Weed and Seed initiative is a community-based, comprehensive multi-agency approach to law enforcement, crime prevention, and neighborhood restoration. It is designed for neighborhoods with persistent high levels of serious violent crime and corresponding social problems. Weed and Seed Communities (WSC) must be developed in partnership with many local organizations-including the United States Attorney's Office (USAO)-to reduce crime and improve the quality of life in a community primarily through the redeployment of existing public and private resources into the community. WSC also helps to address related social problems that without proper intervention often lead to violent crime, drug abuse, and gang activity. FBCOs are eligible to apply. To access the guidelines, application, appendices, and Frequently Asked Questions, please click here

Deadlines: Applicants must submit a Notice of Intent postmarked by Thursday, June 29, 2006. Applicants must submit a draft WSC application to their local USAO postmarked by Tuesday, January 9, 2007. Applicants must first register on that site in order to apply. The deadline to register in Grants.gov (www.grants.gov) is Tuesday, January 23, 2007, 8:00 PM EST. The due date for applying for funding under this announcement is Wednesday, January 31, 2007, 8:00 PM EST via Grants.gov.
