Dr. Sharon Benz Selected as CVM's Animal Feeds Director
Dr. Sharon Benz has been selected as the Director of CVM's Division of Animal Feeds. Dr. Benz has been with FDA's Center for Veterinary Medicine for more than 14 years and has been the leader of the Nutrition and Labeling Team in the Division of Animal Feeds for the past 7 years.
In announcing her appointment, Dr. Daniel McChesney, Director of CVM's Office of Surveillance and Compliance, said “Dr. Benz's knowledge of the issues related to feed industry, the respect she receives from CVM's stakeholders, her interpersonal skills, and her expressed vision for the Division make her an excellent choice for the Director's position.”
Prior to coming to CVM, Dr. Benz was a project officer for the Committee on Animal Nutrition at the National Research Council, in Washington, DC . Dr. Benz received her M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Animal Nutrition from the Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University and her B.S. degree in Animal Scie nc e from Pennsylvania State University .
Dr. Benz will assume her new, very challenging position on November 15, 2004.
