Dear NERSC SP users,
Please remember the following points about
user file storage on seaborg:
- NERSC cannot restore individual user files in
your $HOME directory. You must backup your
$HOME directory files to your HPSS account,
preferably as one or more large tar files.
- You should use $SCRATCH for your temporary
workspace. Please make sure that all of your
application and environment variables for
temporary workspace also point to $SCRATCH,
not /tmp, especially when migrating from the Crays.
- Users should not use /tmp on the IBM SP seaborg.
More information about the file systems of the IBM SP
can be found on the Web at:
http://hpcf.nersc.gov/storage/ibm/
IBM SP users who access HPSS should use the hsi utility
for best performance. pftp and a non-cleartext ftp method
are also available. More information about HPSS
can be found on the web at:
http://hpcf.nersc.gov/storage/hpss/
The NERSC Crays will be retired on October 1, 2002.
If you need information about moving files from the
Crays to the IBM SP, please see the Web at:
http://hpcf.nersc.gov/computers/crayretire.html
Best regards,
Frank Hale
