Mission Areas

THREATS

Threats—Our homeland security and defense work addresses three types of threats:

Intruders — Focusing on dynamic and irregular threats, we ensure critical installation mission functions, personnel, high-value assets and infrastructure, while working to secure our borders and coasts, ports of entry such as airports and seaports, and US Embassy personnel. We also protect DOE/NNSA nuclear assets, DoD nuclear assets, and safeguard the function of other US government critical non- nuclear national assets, sites and infrastructure.

Weapons of mass destruction (WMD) and disruption — Addressing a wide range of threats to the US public from WMD (chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear) to weapons of mass disruption (explosive, cyber), we use global security concepts unlimited to US soil to ensure the function of other US government non-nuclear national assets, sites infrastructure, critical installation mission functions, personnel, high-value assets and infrastructure. We also protect DOE/NNSA nuclear assets and DoD nuclear assets.

National Incidents — With threats from high-consequence accidents and nature, we ensure critical installation mission functions, personnel, high-value assets, infrastructure, key government functions and services, and commercial infrastructure against catastrophic failure. We also protect DOE/NNSA & DoD nuclear assets and ensure the function of other US government non-nuclear national assets, sites and infrastructure.
