FDA Commissioner Dockets Management Branch (HFA 305) Food and Drug Administration 5630 Fisher's Lane, rm. 1061 Rockville, MD 20852 RE: Docket No. 00N-1396, and 00D-1598 Dear FDA, Your proposed regulation are ridiculously short on requir- ing rigorous testing for the safety of genetically modified organisms. First, I must insist that foods containing GMO's be labeled as such. We the consumers, have a right to know what is in our foods, and I do not for one second ASSUME that GMO's are the same as conventional foods and therefore need no labeling. On the contrary, we need to know. What if I have a reaction to a certain GMO? How am I going to know that it could be the GMO if I don't know what's in the food? And further, I am very concerned about the very real dangers of "genetic leakage" and other reactive forces in nature which could further damage the environment. Both of my grandparents were farmers, I grew up in farming country, and I am now a very active gardener. What I know about plants and nature says "no, do not allow geneticaly modified plants into the environment without extremely rigorous testing, as in 10 years or more for each plant, and tested under a wide variety of conditions. Thank you for listening. Sincerely, Robert K.
