As a consumer, I strongly urge the FDA to require more testing of and more information about genetically engineered food products.
The FDA's current proposal seems to require makers of genetically engineered foods or ingredients only to consult with the FDA at least four months before releasing new products onto the marketplace. Do these mandatory consultations have any legal meaning? Or, do they just offer consumers nothing but a false sense of security? I believe it's the latter.
The proposed rules favor the interests of corporate agriculture and the biotechnology industry over the public's right to know about and choose products with acceptable ingredients.
