FDA Commissioner Food and Drug Administration 5630 Fishers Lane Room 1061 (HFA-305) Rockville, MD 20852 RE: Docket No. 98P-1194 Dear FDA: I am writing to ask you to stop the use of recombinant bovine growth hormone. This hormone causes health problems in the animals and it is not proved they don'e cause serious problems in people. Their use is not beneficial to either consumers or cattle. It is beneficial to producers. I would remind you that when a producer labeled his milk as not having rBGH in it he was sued even though he said nothing about the milk produced by those who were using it. I maintain that if a product is good it will find its way into the market without problems. The FDA is supposed to regulate the producer so the consumer can feel safe. More and more one has the feeling that the FDA is a client of the producers and manufactures and not the average taxpayer. I expect the FDA to take a very cautious and independent look at all new things entering the market. That's what the FDA is paid to do. This is true of rBGH so please do not allow it to be used in this country. It is banned in Canada and the European Union so why not in the United States? Thank you for your time and consideration.
