From: J. Arcarese [arcares@attglobal.net] Sent: Friday, January 12, 2001 11:10 PM To: FDADockets@oc.fda.gov Subject: Docket Number 98P-0151/CP1 Hello: I urge the FDA to grant the above petition to prohibit the slaughter of downed animals. These suffering animals need to be humanely euthanized and not be allowed to enter the human or animal food chain. BSE is suspected in some these downed animals, and well as other diseases. Please support the humane treatment of these downed animals, and not allow the pushing of tractors and dragging by chains, which cause further damage and injury. Most of the downed animals can be prevented with better care and handling. Removing the market for downed animals will provide an incentive to industry to prevent downed animals in the first place.
