Subject: Downed Animals

I'm writing you regarding docket #98P-0151/CP1, the petition to prohibit the slaughter of downed animals. A downed animal is one that is too sick or injured even to stand and thusly should not be introduced into the human food chain. It is impossible to humanely move a downed animal. These animals comprise a small percentage of all animals slaughtered. Prohibiting their marketing would not cause an economic hardship.
