Farm Bureau Urges Members
to Keep Atop of Estate Tax Changes The estate tax is commonly referred to as the death
tax. It is a tax on accumulated wealth that is imposed at the time property
is transferred following a death. It is based on the value of the estate, without
consideration for the amount received by any beneficiary or the relationship
between the deceased and the beneficiary (although transfers to a surviving
spouse may be exempt from an estate tax).
