Student Research Institutes

Student Research Institutes provide participating interns the opportunity to research a specific technical area, usually with a team of other interns. CS & IS offers exciting and challenging internships throughout the year. Interns work under the direction of a mentor in a variety of technical disciplines.

Center for Cyber Defenders (CCD) Institute

The Center for Cyber Defenders (CCD) Institute provides students with practical computer security experience. Students participate in a program that fuses research with education by tackling problems such as operating system analysis, network configuration and management, firewall design and implementation, malicious code defense, incident investigation and response, and more.

The CCD is a year-round institute, and hosts students in technical majors. Learn more about the CCD on the Recruiting, Staffing, and University Partnerships website.

Computer Science Research Institute (CSRI)

Students participating in the Computer Science Research Institute (CSRI) conduct computer science and computational science studies within numerous special-interest topics. CSRI projects teach through experience in a leading-edge collaborative research environment.

The CSRI is a year-round institute, and hosts students in technical majors. Most students are hosted at Sandia's main site in Albuquerque, New Mexico; however, a few students are hosted in California each summer.
