Consolidating Call Sites

In 2007, GAO found that IRS had excess capacity at its call sites where taxpayers' telephone inquires are handled. Reducing this excess capacity has the potential to save millions of dollars annually. To enhance IRS efficiency, GAO recommended that the Commissioner of Internal Revenue

  • direct the appropriate officials to develop, validate, and implement in a timely manner a plan to consolidate call sites.

IRS agreed with the recommendation and outlined actions it expected to take.
