Welcome
Hiawatha National Forest
According to several studies, birding is among the most popular and quickly growing hobbies in the nation. Whether you're a backyard birder who enjoys feeding and watching birds or a globe-trotting expert birder, you'll find a wonderful range of bird habitats on the Hiawatha National Forest. Our landscape includes outstanding habitat for a variety of birds that birders love to see -- birds like the Kirtland's warbler, sharp-tailed grouse, boreal chickadee, sandhill crane, pileated woodpecker and peregrine falcon. Springtime birding offers waves of migrating warblers including Canada and Blackburnian warblers. When you visit us, ask about good spots for birding, such as the AuTrain Songbird Trail. Photo: Visitors of all ages enjoy learning more about birds.
