Abuse Handling SIG

Mission

To improve abuse handling on the Internet, by bringing together abuse teams worldwide, encouraging the exchange of experiences and developing best practices.

  • Abuse is considered to be any undesired use of the Internet, such as viruses, spam, phishing or botnets – the list is not restricted to messaging. The focus of the efforts will be large scale, where often dedicated abuse teams work independent of CERT teams.

Objectives

  • To further these goals, the SIG will co-operate with existing initiatives, rather than duplicate efforts, where possible.
  • To encourage and foster creation of Guidelines, best practices and evaluation of tools.
  • To network between Abuse teams, regional, other abuse related groups.
  • To develop a trusted complainers framework.

Expected/Targeted members

  • Any interested FIRST team can join (not only ISPs).
  • If a company has a CERT team and an abuse team, the abuse team could also join.
  • Other people can be invited (approval needed).
