Washington , D.C. — The Graduate School, USDA, and The Public Manager recently signed an agreement to build a learning community that offers resources and opportunities for government employees who seek to expand their careers. The School and The Public Manager will sponsor a series of events and develop a number of products and services through The Public Manager’s discussion program that enable public-sector employees to stay on top of new trends in government and sharpen their technical and leadership skills.
Offerings will include forums, symposia, workshops, and an annual conference dedicated to emerging issues changing the face of government. The discussion program will address a variety of topics, including succession planning, leadership development, transforming government operations, and the multisector workforce. The 2008 annual conference—to be held July 28–29 in Baltimore and jointly sponsored by the American Society for Public Administration (ASPA)—will address a variety of practitioner issues associated with transforming bureaucratic cultures.
“Both organizations are noted for their thought leadership with regard to federal government affairs,” said Dr. Jerry Ice, CEO of The Graduate School, USDA. “It seems like a natural pairing of like-minded people who are putting their heads together to offer the very best to those who are trying to improve the government and themselves. We are delighted to work with The Public Manager to develop new programs that will shine a light on the emerging issues facing government. Our institution has a long history of responding to the needs of government and providing educational solutions in a variety of settings.”
“The Public Manager is a publication dedicated to furthering insightful discussions and articles on government’s challenges and changing goals and needs. Toward that end, we are working with our partners at the Graduate School, USDA, and others to create public discussion opportunities for exchanging information and ideas among professionals to help public servants improve communications and technical skills that will shape how our government does business in the future,” said Carrie Blustin, publisher.
