[franklin-users] new utility on Franklin to check if your executables are recompiled |

Dear Franklin users,
As we have emphasized previously, we ask our users to please recompile
your executables for the new OS 2.1 on Franklin. There is particularly
a risk that the executables using the old message passing toolkit
(xt-mpt/2.x.x versions) would cause system problems (compute node
crashes or system crashes).
We have put into place a wrapper for the "aprun" command during today's
Franklin maintenance to check your executable before it is run. (Serial
executables and scripts are ok). Parallel executables that are not
recompiled using xt-mpt/3.x.x will be rejected. And users will get an
error message in job stderr file similar to the following:
The executable: "your_parallel_executable"
is required to be recompiled before running on Franklin. If you
require
assistance, please contact User Services at consult@nersc.gov.
In oder to not wasting the job queuing time, users are encouraged to use
the "apruntest" utility we provide to check your executables before
submitting to the batch queues:
% apruntest a_parallel_executable
Analyzing the executable: a_parallel_executable
This appears to have been built with MPT3. Okay to run.
% apruntest another_parallel_executable
Analyzing the executable: another_parallel_executable
The executable: "another_parallel_executable"
is required to be recompiled before running on Franklin. If you require
assistance, please contact User Services at consult@nersc.gov.
$ apruntest a_serial_executable
Analyzing the executable: a_serial_executable
This appears to be serial code. Okay to run.
$ apruntest a_script
Analyzing the executable: /a_script
This appears to be a script. Okay to run.
Best Regards,
Helen He
