Overview:
This course has ben re-scheduled to start on 9/25/08, There will also be a make-up class within the term.

Participants with little or no prior knowledge of the language will focus on oral communication and everyday vocabulary. Vocabulary and basic grammar skills are reinforced through simple readings and writing exercises. ACE College Credit Recommendation Service reviewed.

Syllabus:

To provide the student with the ability to speak and understand Spanish at a basic level, using basic vocabulary and elementary concepts reflecting Spanish as spoken in contemporary Hispanic cultures.

Learning Outcome
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to understand spoken Spanish involving basic vocabulary; express basic concepts in Spanish; understand aspects of contemporary Hispanic cultures; interact in Spanish in easy, every day life contexts.

Instruction
Major topics covered in the course are basic grammar including present indicative verb forms; negative and interrogative sentences; present indicative of -ir and -er verbs, ir a + infinitive, stem changing verbs; descriptive adjectives; pronouns; basic expressions from common communication situations including months and seasons of the year, introductions, colors, cardinal numbers, telephone calls, foods, beverages and leisure time.

Methods of instruction include dialogues, oral classroom exercises, group work, examinations and written exercises.
