Seaborg debugging problems |

Greetings NERSC User,
Several NERSC users have recently encountered problems debugging 64-bit MPI
applications on Seaborg. Their interactive debugging sessions hang, and
eventually one of the nodes crashes. This node must then be rebooted by
NERSC staff.
This failure can occur with any parallel debugger (totalview, pdbx). We have
no evidence that the problem affects debugging of serial codes, or of any
32-bit codes.
IBM has identified the source of the failure, and we expect a fix to be
available in early May. Until then, we would like to ask users to refrain
from using totalview or pdbx for 64-bit MPI codes on Seaborg. Bassi is not
affected, and so should be used for this type of debugging.
Please note that this condition is unrelated to today's switch problems on
Seaborg. We apologize for any inconvenience this situation causes.

Best regards,
David Turner
