Subject: clarifications about the 2006 awards
Author: Francesca Verdier <fverdier_at_lbl.gov>

Dear NERSC Project Managers, This email is to clarify several questions I have received about the 2006 awards. First, keep in mind that the awards are for a period of ten months, not 12. Second, not all of the available time has been allocated. The award letters stated: "At this time only 80 percent of the available MPP time has been allocated to projects. The remaining MPP time will be allocated after December 1." What this means is the following. DOE has not yet made their final decisions on how much time each of the six offices will get. Pending that decision, 80 percent of the time was allocated to the offices in the same ratio as the 2005 allocations. The remaining 20% (8.94 million hours) will be allocated some time after December 1. If you have concerns about your awarded amounts, please send an email to your DOE Allocation Manager: http://www.nersc.gov/nusers/accounts/allocations//off-prog-mon.php Third, the MPP awards can be used on any of the three MPP machines: the IBM SP, Seaborg; the Opteron Cluster, Jacquard; and the SGI Altix, DaVinci. See: http://www.nersc.gov/nusers/accounts/charging/ Finally, the emails were correctly titled "NERSC 2006 Allocation Award", but in the body of the email there was an incorrect statement "Your MPP award for AY 2005 is:". This should have been AY 2006, for allocation year 2006. Sincerely, -- Francesca Verdier email: fverdier@lbl.gov Group Lead, NERSC User Services phone: 510-486-7193
