  • An Ounce of Prevention: HIV/AIDS in Eurasia
  • Since 1988, World AIDS Day has been an important reminder to everyone that HIV has not gone away, and that there are many things still to be done. According to UNAIDS estimates, there are now more than 33 million people living with HIV, including 2.5 million children. In Eurasia, HIV/AIDS has hit with a force that rivals the spread in developing nations. CRDF established an initiative to stimulate international collaboration with HIV/AIDS researchers in Eurasia in 2004. In the years since, CRDF has supported HIV/AIDS research that offers innovative, high-caliber scientific advancements that may likely lead to cost-effective prevention and treatment options.

Joining World AIDS Day, CRDF has continued to be an active leader in supporting interdisciplinary approaches to preventing the spread of HIV/AIDS throughout the region.

In 2007, CRDF implemented a variety of activities including conducting a bioethics workshop, presenting a panel at the International AIDS Society Conference in Sydney, Australia, awarding HIV/AIDS research travel fellowships, and setting up two HIV/AIDS Research Public Health Centers of Excellence (PHCE).
