NERSC Information Management (NIM) Overview

NERSC uses the NERSC Information Management (NIM) system to manage user information, account creation, usage reporting, and the allocations process.

NERSC users and managers access the NIM system through the NIM Web Interface at nim.nersc.gov.

The NIM Users Manual and the NIM Guide for PIs, PI Proxies, and Project Managers provide documentation on how to use NIM.

There is also an inquiry-only command called getnim available on the computational systems. Users can use getnim interactively and in scripts to get their account balances.

Logging into the NIM Web Interface

You log into NIM using one of your NERSC login names and a NIM password. If you don't have a NERSC login name, but you are an authorized NERSC person, we will create a NIM login name for you. To get your NIM login name and/or password, call the NERSC Account Support Office at 1-800-66-NERSC or 1-510-486-8600, and select menu item 2.

When you first log into NIM you will be required to change this initial password. All NERSC passwords, including NIM passwords, should Your NIM password must abide by NERSC's password policy.

If you forget your NIM password you can get it reset by calling the NERSC Account Support Office at the phone number given above.
