2008 INCITE Projects

The U.S. Department of Energy's (DOE) Office of Science awarded 55 projects a total of 265 million hours of computing time on some of the world's most powerful supercomputers as part of its 2008 Innovative and Novel Computational Impact on Theory and Experiment (INCITE) program.

Eleven of the projects will receive a total of 10.4 million hours of computing time at NERSC:

• Paul Bemis: CAE Simulation of Full Vehicle Windnoise and Other CFD Phenomena
• Gil Compo: The 20th Century Reanalysis Project
• Hong Im: Direct Numerical Simulation of Turbulent Flame Quenching by Fine Water Droplets
• Leeor Kronik: Understanding the Electronic Structure of Novel Electronic Materials using Many-Body Perturbation Theory
• Warren Mori: Petascale Particle-in-Cell Simulations of Plasma Based Accelerators
• Larry Pratt: Reactions of Lithium Carbenoids, Lithium Enolates, and Mixed Aggregates
• Ji Qiang: Beam Delivery System Optimization for X-Ray Free Electron Lasers
• David Randall: Simulation of Global Cloudiness
• Chuang Ren: Three-Dimensional Particle-in-Cell Simulations for Fast Ignition
• Warren Washington: Climate-Science Computational End Station Development and Grand Challenge Team
