Working with the CRF

As an Office of Science collaborative research facility, a key aspect of the Combustion Research Facility's mission is to encourage the direct involvement of individuals, or "collaborators," from the scientific community. The CRF hosts more than 100 users each year, who work side-by-side with staff researchers to develop new research methods and approaches, conduct experiments exploiting new facilities and techniques, and solve high-priority combustion problems.

The CRF emphasizes collaborative investigations that lead to openly published results, but other models for supporting proprietary research can be arranged. Sandia uses a variety of agreement mechanisms to work with industry, universities, and government agencies.

Potential users of the CRF are encouraged to contact the manager of the technical area in which they propose to collaborate.

The CRF's Visitor Program assists users in logistical arrangements for visits, such as obtaining security clearances and arranging for housing. For more information, contact Lisa Gray at (925) 294-3294, lgray@sandia.gov.

In addition to onsite collaboration, researchers interact with the CRF through a variety of workshops and databases sponsored by the CRF. Examples include the International Workshop on Measurement and Computation of Turbulent Nonpremixed Flames and the Thermodynamics Resource.
