Maps & Directions

Sandia/California is located at 7011 East Avenue in Livermore, Calif., a suburban community about 45 miles east of San Francisco. Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) is directly across the street from Sandia on the north side of East Avenue.

Access to Sandia’s California site is limited to those with authorized badges. If you do not have an authorized badge, be sure to make arrangements with your Sandia point of contact ahead of time so that you can pick up a visitor badge at the Satellite Badge Office (Mobile 53) before entering the site. Directions

By Car

If you have an authorized badge:

  1. From I-580, exit Vasco Road (exit #55) and head south.
  2. Turn LEFT on East Avenue (approximately 4 miles from the freeway exit).
  3. Stop at the security checkpoint, and show your badge to the protective force officer.
  4. Sandia/California is on the right (south) side of East Avenue.

If you do not have an authorized badge:

  1. From I-580, exit on Vasco Road (exit #55) and head south.
  2. Turn LEFT on East Avenue (approximately 4 miles from the freeway exit).
  3. Turn RIGHT into the small parking lot (before reaching the guard gate).
  4. Park, enter Sandia’s Satellite Badge Office (Mobile 53), and present your valid driver’s license or picture ID. If your name is on the list of expected personnel, you will be issued a visitor badge.
  5. Exit the parking lot onto Vasco Road, and turn RIGHT on East Avenue.
  6. Stop at the security checkpoint, and show your badge to the protective force officer.
  7. Sandia/California is on the right (south) side of East Avenue.

By Public Transit

From the Dublin/Pleasanton BART Station:

  1. Take Wheels 20 or Wheels 10 to the LLNL/Sandia Transit Hub at the corner of East Avenue and Vasco Road. (Note: Wheels 20 has a more direct route with fewer stops than Wheels 10; however, Wheels 10 runs more frequently than Wheels 20, so be sure to check the bus schedules when planning your trip.)
  2. If you have an authorized badge, walk to the security checkpoint, and show your badge to the protective force officer. If you do not have an authorized badge, enter Sandia’s Satellite Badge Office (Mobile 53), and present your valid driver’s license or picture ID. If your name is on the list of expected personnel, you will be issued a visitor badge that you can then show to the protective force officer at the security checkpoint.
  3. You can then walk or ride a bicycle to your Sandia destination. Bicycles are available at the security checkpoint for use on the Sandia site free of charge.

From the Vasco Road Station of the Altamont Commuter Express:

  1. Take Wheels 20 to the LLNL/Sandia Transit Hub at the corner of East Avenue and Vasco Road.
  2. If you have an authorized badge, walk to the security checkpoint, and show your badge to the protective force officer. If you do not have an authorized badge, enter Sandia’s Satellite Badge Office (Mobile 53), and present your valid driver’s license or picture ID. If your name is on the list of expected personnel, you will be issued a visitor badge that you can then show to the protective force officer at the security checkpoint.
  3. You can then walk or ride a bicycle to your Sandia destination. Bicycles are available at the security checkpoint for use on the Sandia site free of charge.
