Frequently Asked Questions

Q: I applied for a job online. When will I hear from Sandia National Laboratories?

A: When you apply to a specific job, you should immediately receive an e-mail message confirming that your application has been successfully submitted. After reviewing the resumes of qualified applicants, the hiring organization will select the most qualified candidates and will contact potential interviewees directly. Typically, a recruiter or hiring organization will contact you within 3–4 weeks if you are one of the most qualified applicants.

Q: How do I apply for a position?

A: For an overview of the application process, see Applying for Employment at Sandia/California. For detailed instructions on how to use our corporate employment website, see the Getting Started tips.

Q: How can I tell if I’m being considered for a position?

A: We review applicant resumes frequently and contact the most qualified candidates for interviews. Typically, a recruiter or hiring organization will contact you within 3–4 weeks if you are one of the most qualified applicants.

Q: I saw a job posted, but now it’s gone. What happened?

A: The job is no longer open to applicants. It may have been filled, put on hold, or cancelled.

Q: I am having trouble applying online. Help!

A: See our troubleshooting tips.

Q: How do I search for a specific job number?

A: You may browse all of the jobs in our database by scrolling through the listed jobs (to see all jobs, be sure to click on View All.) Jobs are listed by their posting dates, with the most recently posted jobs at the top. You can change the order of the list by clicking on a column title to sort the list by the criteria in that column. The Reference column indicates the job number of each open position. Another way to find a position with a specific job number is to type that job number in the Keywords field.

Q: Why do some jobs require U.S. citizenship?

A: Because Sandia is a Department of Energy national laboratory, there are some tasks that can be performed only by individuals who have been granted a security clearance. Thus, positions that include these job duties require that potential candidates either have a security clearance or are able to obtain one. Since clearances are only granted to U.S. citizens, U.S. citizenship is required for these positions.

Q: I don’t see a job I’m interested in right now. Can I just send you my resume?

A: We want to make sure that you are applying for a position that meets your qualifications and interests. For that reason, we ask that you apply to specific open positions for which you’d like to be considered. If you are a previous job applicant and are interested in a new or different job opening, you must apply to that particular job opening to be considered.

To stay informed of future job openings of interest, you can create a job agent that will send you automatic e-mail notifications for future jobs that meet your criteria. See the Getting Started tips.

Q: What happens to my old resumes when I upload a new resume?

A: Your resumes are displayed as a historical record of your application and cannot be deleted. Sandia hiring managers see only the resume you used to apply to a job in their organization and, therefore, do not see outdated resumes used to apply to other jobs in the past.

Q: Does Sandia offer internships?

A: We have many different internship programs, from summer assignments to year-round opportunities. Visit our internships website to learn about intern positions and other student programs.
