The 2009 AAAS Meeting will bring together an exceptional array of speakers addressing some of the most crucial and timely areas of science, technology, and engineering.  The meeting's theme—Our Planet and Its Life: Origins and Futures—recognizes that 2009 is the 200th anniversary of Charles Darwin's birth and the 150th anniversary of the publication of his book, On the Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection.

CRDF will host a panel entitled, " Science for Diplomacy:  Building Scientific Cooperation with North Korea," on Friday, February 13, 2009 from 10:30 a.m.-12 p.m.  This panel will highlight the challenges and opportunities of engaging the DPRK in science, and why it is important.

Panelists
• Dr. Peter Agre, Director at Johns Hopkins Malaria Research Institute (JHMRI) and incoming President of AAAS, has over thirty years of experience as a molecular biologist, medical doctor, and professor. 
• Mr. Frederic Carriere has been Vice-President and Executive Director of The Korea Society (TKS) since 1994. 
• Dr. Stuart Thorson is professor of international relations and political science in The Maxwell School and is a Fellow at Syracuse University (SU)’s Systems Assurance Institute. 

Discussant
• Dr. Vaughan Turekian is Chief International Officer for the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS).

Moderator
• Dr. Eric J. Novotny is the Senior Vice President at CRDF and manages five operating divisions and coordinates all program planning and execution.

CRDF will also host an International Reception on Friday, February 13, 2009 from 5-6:30 p.m.
