Bioanalysis & Sampling

Laboratory analysis of biological samples serves multiple needs, from ensuring water and food safety to identifying and responding to possible epidemics or biological attacks.

However, bioanalysis is currently a costly and time-consuming process, often requiring trained technicians; large, unwieldy machinery; and transport of samples to and from a central laboratory.

To overcome these challenges, Sandia National Laboratories has developed miniature, portable bioanalysis prototype devices that are based on Sandia’s pioneering work in microfluidics. These devices can automatically and rapidly collect and process microliter volumes of samples and analyze them for toxins, bacteria, spores, viruses, and DNA.
